Science Workshops in Actions!

Our Special Human Body — Learning How Our Lungs and Heart Work

Teachers and children in a classroom science workshop on the human body, with poster, models, and thank-you text to Mr and Mrs Tan

We had a wonderful time exploring the human body with the children during this special science workshop.

Instead of simply memorizing facts, the children got to see, build and investigate how important parts of our body work.

How do our lungs help us breathe?

The children first explored how our lungs work when we breathe in and out.

Using simple everyday materials, they built a model of the lungs and observed how changes in air pressure can cause the “lungs” to inflate and deflate.

The activity helped them connect something they do every few seconds — breathing — with what is actually happening inside their body.

Where does blood travel through the heart?

We then moved on to the heart.

The children were introduced to the four chambers of the heart, but the focus was not on memorizing difficult names.

Instead, they followed the journey of the blood:

Body → Heart → Lungs → Heart → Body

Using plastic tubing, small containers and syringes, we created a simple working model to represent how blood moves through different parts of the heart.

By watching the liquid travel through the system, the children could begin to understand that the heart is not simply a “pump” — it is a carefully organised pathway that keeps blood moving in the correct direction.

Learning through experience

What we enjoy most about these workshops is seeing children move from:

“What is this?”

to

“Oh! So that is how it works!”

Science becomes much easier to understand when children are able to touch, observe, test and make discoveries for themselves.

What happens when children are given a fragile cargo and a rescue mission?

They begin to think like young engineers!

In this hands-on mission, our young Ninja Science Agents had to protect their cargo, build their rescue vehicle, and send it safely across different challenges.

It was not just about building something that moves.

Children had to observe, test, adjust, and think carefully about questions like:

“Why did it move this way?”

“How can I make it safer?”

“What can I improve before the final challenge?”

Through the mission, they experienced science ideas such as force, movement, stability, friction, and design improvement — not by memorising them, but by using them.

The best part?

Every child became part of the rescue story.

They built.

They tested.

They improved.

They completed the mission.

What happens when children are given a mystery to solve through science?

Let the fun begins!
Let the fun begins!

They become curious, alert, and eager to find out more.

In our Science Kitchen Lab workshop, children step into a fun mission world where they must observe carefully, test ideas, and work together to uncover what is really going on.

It is not about rushing to the answer.

It is about noticing clues, comparing evidence, and learning how to think before deciding.

That is where the real excitement begins.

The best part?

Children are not just watching science happen.

They are part of the mission.

They explore.

They question.

They investigate.

They solve.
